What it is
Resolume is what most working VJs mean by “my software.” Avenue is the core instrument: decks of video clips launched and layered live, effects stacked per layer, BPM sync, audio reactivity, and projection mapping. Arena adds the show-control tier: multi-projector output, edge blending, LED wall handling, DMX and SMPTE timecode.
The craft is in the content. Resolume gives you a superb mixing surface and assumes you arrive with clips worth mixing, whether bought as VJ loops, rendered from TouchDesigner, or piped in live over Spout or NDI from a generative tool.
What it costs
Avenue €299, Arena €799, perpetual licenses with paid major upgrades. macOS and Windows. The demo is fully functional with a watermark.
Best for
Club and festival VJs running prepared content, and anyone who needs mapping and multi-output as a core requirement rather than an add-on.
Skip it if
You have no clip library and want the software to generate the show from the music. Pair it with NestDrop for that, or skip the rig entirely if the goal is visuals for your own Ableton set, which is what Photism does without the routing.
