What it is
VDMX is the Mac-only VJ environment you assemble yourself. There is no fixed layout: you build your interface from modules (clip banks, sliders, LFOs, audio analysis, control surfaces) and wire anything to anything. That freedom made it the tinkerer’s choice for two decades, and Vidvox’s stewardship of open standards like ISF and Syphon has shaped the whole Mac visuals ecosystem.
VDMX6 rebuilt the engine on Metal, and the Plus tier hosts TouchDesigner and Vuo compositions inside the rig, which makes it a strong hub for hybrid generative setups.

You want a show running this weekend with stock workflow. The blank-canvas design means the first hours are spent building the instrument. Resolume is faster to competence; Photism skips the rig question entirely for Ableton sets.
