Studio One is now Fender Studio Pro. Fender renamed it on January 13, 2026, and this guide uses the Fender Studio Pro 8 name for every menu. It has its own Video Track, built for scoring to picture, which plays a finished video in sync with your music. A visualizer plugin on the Main Out goes the other way and makes the video from the music as it plays. Both sit inside your Session, and the steps for each follow.
The built-in route: the Video Track
The Video Track holds a video file in sync with your Session, and the Video Player window shows it, with a borderless full-screen mode for a second display. Drag a video in from the Browser or from Finder or Explorer. When the music is done, Export Video in the Session menu renders the picture with your mix to an MPEG-4 or QuickTime file. It is good at what it does, which is writing music to footage that is already cut.
The plugin route: a VST3 visualizer on the Main Out
A visualizer plugin loads into an insert slot like any effect, with every look already built. You pick a scene and a palette, and it reacts to the track from the first beat.
This is the route Photism takes. It is a VST3 and Audio Unit effect that passes your audio through untouched, and the plugin window is the visualizer. Twenty-four scenes, from marbled ink to a constellation that builds itself to a live reaction-diffusion figure, each react to kicks, bass weight, and energy in real time.
Install and scan
- Install the plugin. On a Mac, run the Photism installer. It
puts the VST3 and the Audio Unit in your plug-in folders, with no
admin password. On Windows, extract the zip and copy the whole
Photism.vst3folder intoC:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3, with the Contents folder still inside it. - Restart Fender Studio Pro. It scans for new plug-ins when it starts, and Photism then shows up in the Effects tab of the Browser. On a Mac it appears twice, as a VST3 and as an Audio Unit. Either one works, and they share your presets.
- Right-click Photism in the Effects tab and choose Favorite. Favorites sit at the top of the Effects tab and in every insert menu.
Load it on the Main Out
- Press F3 to open the Console. The Main Out channel sits at the far right.
- Click Add Insert at the top of the Main Out’s insert rack and pick Photism.
- Click Photism in the rack to open its window, which is the visualizer. Press play and the picture starts moving with the song.
If the Console shows no insert racks, it is in Small mode. Press shift+F3 to switch it back to Large. On the Main Out, Photism hears the whole mix. Put it on a single channel or a Bus instead and it follows only that part, a drum bus for example.
Fender Studio Pro shows one plugin window at a time, so opening another insert can take over Photism’s window. Click Pin at the top right of the window before you record.
Pick a look
Every control has a button in the row along the corner of the window, so you can drive the whole thing with the mouse:
- tab · scenes opens the scene grid. Click any scene to jump to it.
- p · opens the palette card. Every color set is on one card.
- x · shuffle picks a fresh scene and palette in one click.
- g · tune opens the tuning panel, with the macros, the lens, and your saved presets.
The keyboard shortcuts work too. In the plugin they take shift: shift+g for the panel, shift+r to record, shift+o for the output. Drop an album cover onto the window and Photism builds a five-color palette from it, so the visuals match the release.
Record the video
- Choose the frame with the a · button: 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Reels and TikTok, 1:1 for a square post.
- Put the playhead at the start of the song.
- Click r · rec in the window, or press shift+r, then press play in Fender Studio Pro.
- When the song ends, click the record button again. The button steps through finishing, adding sound, and saving, then names the folder.
The MP4 saves to your Downloads folder with the song already in it, taken from the channel Photism sits on. You skip the mixdown and the step of lining the song up in an editor. Clips record at each platform’s upload size, and the recording settings in the tuning panel go up to 4K.
Keep the plugin window open until the button says saved. Covering it with other windows is fine, and closing it ends the take.
Change scenes on the drop
Photism’s scene, palette, mode, preset slot, and main controls are ordinary plugin parameters. Inserts on the Main Out are automated from an Automation Track:
- Press T to open the Add Track dialog, choose Automation, and add the track.
- Press A to show automation. Click the new track’s parameter display and choose Add/Remove. In the Automation dialog, select Photism’s Scene in the list on the right and click Add.
- Pick the Paint tool, turn on Snap, and draw the curve at one scene before the drop and the next scene after it. Every playback switches the scene on that beat.
The same works for Palette at the bridge, Spin or Mirror as a slow build, or Preset Slot to swap the entire look on a section. Photism’s Scene parameter is separate from the Console’s own Scenes, which store mixer settings.
Getting it on a second screen
Click o · output, or press shift+o, to open a separate output window. Drag it to your second display or projector and make it fullscreen. It shows the visuals alone, with no buttons. To stream it, turn on Syphon (Mac) or Spout (Windows, beta) in that window’s top bar and pick the Photism source in OBS, Resolume, or TouchDesigner. On a Mac, the first Syphon use asks for Screen Recording access. Allow Fender Studio Pro, since the plugin runs inside it. The Syphon and Spout guide covers the receiving side.
Which route to pick
| You want | Best route |
|---|---|
| Music scored to a film or ad that is already cut | The Video Track |
| Visuals that look finished the moment you press play | A visualizer plugin |
| A video for Reels or TikTok straight from your Session | A visualizer plugin |
| Your mix rendered onto footage you already have | The Video Track |
Both run inside your Session, so trying either costs nothing but a track or an insert slot. You can feel Photism’s engine before installing anything at photism.app/online, which runs three scenes free in your browser from a dropped track or your mic.
